Designing collections is one thing, creating an identity is another. Building a brand identity is crucial before even considering a collection.

Referring Back to Brand Identity

A lot of designer’s do forget to refer back to their brand identity when designing a collection, which will eventually blur the character of the brand and will create mixed feelings to the consumer every season.

Referring back to the brand identity before designing a collection is essential for creating that distinctive personality that everyone will know and remember. The character of the brand must be illustrated through the collections and designs every season – This will set their mark on the fashion map!

How to create a brand identity?

Well, we can go through a lot of details and points, but for the sake of this talk, focus on just the three main elements mentioned below:

Brand Story – Who are you? What inspired you to create the brand?

A brand should narrate the story and history of who and what it is about. How it was formed and the events that lead to its existence. If the story was told, the consumers will relate more to the brand, and will always be remembered by your clients.

Brand Promise – What will the brand offer to its clients?

The Brand Promise tells the consumer what they can expect from your product or services. This sets the quality and properties of your products which will then keep you in quality control mode 24/7!

The final point is what really sets every brand from the other, the character, the voice and vibe of the brand,

Tone Of Voice – Go for three key words!

Choose 3 key words that really describes the style and character of your brand. Let me give you an example – The three key words of the Dana Riad | HOF are: Distinct, Dreamy and Diverse. We focus on these 3 key words throughout the design development process and always consider distinctive designs that represent our juxtaposition mix of styles, create a dreamy feel through the designs, and we consider every piece to be diverse and made for every woman.

Managing a consistent tone of voice is an important part of building a strong, clear and focused character. Referring back to the tone of voice will characterize the creation of the brand’s designs that will eventually become recognizable to the world. Everyone will then know the brand’s designs, their vibe and style without even seeing the name tag, which will surely be setting their mark as a well-known name.
